Controlling Diabetes With Diet: The Role Of Olive Oil

Continued From << Controlling Diabetes With Diet

Make sure you take only the right amount of carbohydrates each day. Never go too high nor too low than what is required. Each of the basic food group gives you a certain amount of carbohydrate. Know what these food groups are, what actual foods belong to them, and estimate as closely as you can.

3. Consult with a dietitian. Be guided accordingly by consulting with a health expert. A dietician is the professional who can help you plan your meals. You can also ask them regarding the use of exchange lists as they could help you greatly in planning your daily diet.

4. Use only canola or olive oil. If you can’t avoid oils in your diet altogether, at least use either canola or olive oil only. These oils are known to have lower cholesterol levels and are way healthier than the other types. You still have to reduce your intake of saturated fats though. Saturated fats are fats that are primarily found in snack foods and animal products. If you can avoid them, then do so.

5. Avoid fruit juices. Fruit juices are rich in simple carbohydrates, no matter how fresh and natural they may seem to be. Instead of drinking fruit juices, eat the fruits instead. But even so, you have to take them in moderation. Too much fruits in a day may actually raise your blood sugar level. Don’t take more than four types of fruit each day. Try to mix eating fruits with vegetables.

Follow these guidelines and you should be well on your way in controlling diabetes through the food that you eat. Eating healthy is the best complement to the medicines you may need to take for diabetes.
