Type 2 diabetes is probably the most common type of diabetes. When a person is said to have Type 2 diabetes, it is because their body cells are unable to properly utilize the insulin produced by the pancreas (this situation is also called "insulin resistance"). Insulin is a body hormone that is needed to transform sugar into energy or into a form that is more useful to the body.

Sugar is required by the body to fuel it and make it function well. Once sugar is produced, it is insulin’s job to take those newly formed sugar in the blood that goes into the body cells. Now if the sugar, which is usually glucose, merely builds up in the blood and is not properly transferred into the cells, there can only be two problems arising. The first would be that the cells will begin to starve for energy and start to die. And second, the high glucose content in the blood will not be good for the kidneys, the eyes, nerves, and even the heart.

This fact is what makes diabetes a very serious disease. Imagine if you have it and don’t do something about it. Eventually, the high sugar content in your blood could cause you to become blind, without you even knowing it is about to happen.

Their diet should strictly not include any type of foods rich in sugar and starch. This would mean that they cannot eat any type of sweets at all.

Exercise is also going to help a lot. Exercise can possibly burn excessive sugar in the body. It is very advisable for diabetic patients to live a very active lifestyle. Doing so would allow them to better cope with their disease. If a diabetic patient doesn’t engage in physical activities, then he may need to employ a certain type of diabetes medication. Special insulin therapies may also be prescribed to them so that the level of sugar in their bodies is properly regulated.
