Protein and Sugar: Diabetes Type 2 Menu

3. Protein. Protein, however needed by the body, should be eaten in moderation. Too much protein in the body is converted by the liver into glucose. So if a diabetic patient eats large amount of meats, it is possible that their blood sugar level would rise a few hours after they ate. One serving of beef for diabetic patients is something as big and as thick as a deck of cards.

4. Sugar. While it is true that diabetes is caused by excessive sugar in the blood, it doesn’t necessarily mean that a person with diabetes should never eat foods with sugar at all. They can eat them in moderation without a problem. But if they exceed the acceptable amount, that’s when things become ugly. Table sugar is not the same as the sugar found in the blood.

Blood sugar is called glucose. Table sugar, on the other hand, is sucrose. Sucrose is a compound sugar which, when broken down, produces both glucose and fructose. But even so, a certain study shows that a sprinkle of table sugar in the food that a diabetic eats can actually stop a dramatic rise of glucose in their blood. Again, take table sugar only in moderation. Too much of it is unhealthy.

All other foods are acceptable, including vegetables and fruits. A person with type 2 diabetes can actually eat any type of foods he desire. But they can only do so in certain amounts. If they eat more than what is required of them, certain complications in their health can be expected.

To get a more personalized diabetes Type 2 menu, try to consult with your dietician. A dietician is the health expert who can construct a certain meal plan for you according to your weight, the severity of your disease, and your physical condition. Type 2 diabetics should follow strictly the menu provided to them by their health provider. This would help them greatly in controlling the complications associated with their disease.
